Some of you may remember a while back some talk about photographing and fingerprinting foreigners visiting Japan... Well it's here finally! In effect by November everywhere in Japan, special computerized machines at immigration will scan your face and hands. I hope my ugly mug breaks their machine. The reason is due to the rise in "multiple simultaneous terrorist attacks" throughout the world. The computers will cross-referencing your prints and photo with a list of suspicious persons.

The video explains it all, but you'll have to follow the link as the government makes it really hard to steal:

New Immigration Procedure Video

Also, and this is the kicker - it will identify foreigners that keep trying to get in illegally. ie, on repeat tourist visas etc. Holy sushi-roll, ManBat! That means YOU!

"What if I refuse to be fingered or photographed?"

"If you refuse to be fingerprinted or photographed, you will be denied entry and ordered to leave ^_^

"Ok~! I'll pass it on to my friends too!"

Mattonabike from ShigaJet found this article which mentions DoCoMo's most recent "look in to the future", via a small video presentation displaying what the near future holds for technology.

Some pretty cool things like GPS built in to glasses and lots of other star-trek-esque gadgets worth having a look at in the video.

Despite not mentioning exactly when this near future is that they are so optimistic about, we have to give them credit as a previous DoCoMo look in to the future video revealed video conferencing on mobile devices, something which was laughed off at the time as unrealistic, which we can find in the majority of Japanese mobile phones these days...

Also, if you have some spare time and are interested:
If you happen to be in Japan, you can arrange a tour to Docomo's R&D Center, in the city of Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture. we haven't been there ourselves but they have an exhibit called WHARF (Wealth, Human Activity and Revolution for the Future) that looks interesting. We guess the name says it all.

Apparently Japanese women are getting better. Oops.. I mean, they are getting larger busts, wider hips, more buttock, and thinner waists!

ボン!キュ!ボン!(the sound of 36-24-36) Bon! Kyu! Bon!

Praise the influence of American (ok, ok, `western`) eating habits. It is good to see the positive effects of a western diet in the women that I actually see on the street daily. For some time I have wondered where the idea that all Japanese women have tiny boobs came from, as my personal experiences point to a wide variety of Boobage, with wonderful proportions abounding (and bouncing).

"It's just more fun to show some skin,"

"I had a hard time finding button-down shirts that would close,"

"Sometimes the buttons would burst off."

A Bra Commercial, case in point. This is the chinese version, so the commentray is in Chinese. Alas.

Here are some pics of a few brands mentioned in the article.. I admit it was fun searching for them.. heh.. Click Here for the Egoist website, and the Style to get to a Gallery of sorts..

Since we seem to be on a bit of a sex-vibe at oldSushi today... could be due to the end of golden week, or just you're all sick sick people, but anyway heres my 2 cents.

This is a video I actually came across a good while back on Japundit, but never got round to posting it. Its a pretty good little documentary by the BBC looking at sex in Japan, Japanese peoples attitude towards it, and how it differs from Western style.

I'd love to hear all of your comments regarding this. It even has a western girl faking a dodgy Japanese accent! either that or its a Japanese woman with a really shit English accent

Highlights:

What clearly distinguishes Japan from the West is that Japanese men are not so bound by love and intimacy in their relationships with women. That is a traditional Japanese characteristic.

The traditional view of sexuality in Japan is, to put it simply, that love and sex dont go together. In other words, it is ok to have sex without love. This is considered natural in Japanese culture.

Japanese men are said to be married twice, once to their wives, and again to the company.

Hold onto your socks children, or they're gonna get blown right off your ass. Dig this, I started my Saturday the same way I always do, with a brisk walk, turning to a trot, followed by some meandering, before culminating with an all out promenade down our beautiful Kyoto riverwalk. Along the way I came across an agreeable group of young scamps who were engaged in a primitive game of baseball. Upon first glance, they seemed a discerning bunch so I approached with the intent of joining in on their rapscallion activities. Yet, when my shadow cast itself upon their field, the group of lads quickly scattered. Just then, an old pockmarked soothsayer tapped the back of my kneecap with his rotting pikestaff. "There was one before you..." he stated in a cryptic voice. He slipped me a Digital Video Disc before vanishing with the wind.

Watch with caution dear friends, and don't expect invitation into a game of stickball anytime soon.

You know when someone thinks of something something really cool, yet still really simple and not too difficult to pull off, and makes you think "damn, why didnt I think of that"? Well this is one of them. Flipbook style advertising in Tokyo subway tunnels, using the moving train as the 'page flicker' and the window as your viewport. via Japundit.

Pretty wicked looking anime is starting up this year called "Joe is Japanese" about a Japanese-Western half (half breed of each) growing up in Japan. From the little intro video, it looks pretty interesting, and covers some of the situations that a lot of us find ourselves in from day to day. Found the anime while reading Japanator, and heres some quotes from 'Joes' mySpace page.

The show is based on (mostly) true events from my life. It wasn't easy growing up a half-breed. No one culture will ever be yours to embrace. No matter how hard I tried, I could never really be Japanese, and as I got older I realized that I might have overcompensated and became too Japanese. You'd have to be Japanese to understand what I mean by that one...

Here's a shot from the anime of a far too common experience from [Joe's] childhood:

Joe is Japanese

I was the target of bullies until I left high school. Bully’s in Japan are a new level of evil, BTW. I'll tell you about the stove shockers and garlic/basil incident.

Pink Tentacle says: Most octopi squirt thick clouds of black ink to confuse predators. This video from a Japanese TV quiz show, however, shows a type of Tremoctopus, or blanket octopus (murasakidako in Japanese), employing a different technique. The video explains that when threatened, the octopus unfurls a giant sheet of webbing that trails behind like a cape. The webbing breaks apart rather easily when attacked — much like a lizard’s tail — and it gets wrapped around the predator’s face, giving the octopus a chance to flee.
