Some of you may remember a while back some talk about photographing and fingerprinting foreigners visiting Japan... Well it's here finally! In effect by November everywhere in Japan, special computerized machines at immigration will scan your face and hands. I hope my ugly mug breaks their machine. The reason is due to the rise in "multiple simultaneous terrorist attacks" throughout the world. The computers will cross-referencing your prints and photo with a list of suspicious persons.

The video explains it all, but you'll have to follow the link as the government makes it really hard to steal:

New Immigration Procedure Video

Also, and this is the kicker - it will identify foreigners that keep trying to get in illegally. ie, on repeat tourist visas etc. Holy sushi-roll, ManBat! That means YOU!

"What if I refuse to be fingered or photographed?"

"If you refuse to be fingerprinted or photographed, you will be denied entry and ordered to leave ^_^

"Ok~! I'll pass it on to my friends too!"

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is set to order Nova Corp., Japan’s largest English-language school operator, to suspend part of its business for six months for having violated the law governing the industry, ministry sources said Wednesday.

Specifically, they have been screwing their customers who sign up for long contracts by cheating them out of the 8 day cooling off period, as well as penalizing students who cancel mid-contract by calculating their already attended lessons at a higher point rate.

Nova group is therefore banned from creating 6 month or longer contracts with new students, which is where their primary income is. Even if this ban is incurred for just 30 days, with their mounting debts and plummeting public image, they are pretty much officially screwed. Employees of Nova should start looking for another job now, seriously people.

I also found this pretty picture of Nova's stock price! Isn't it beautiful?? (and udated live!)

Ashcraft over at Kotaku entitles this "Kid's Say The Darndest Things"

During the weekend, we took a family drive. It was a nice day, so I rolled down the window and let the breeze blow through the cabin. We hit a stop light. At the corner, there was a teen, couldn't have been more than 16 and what appeared to be his girlfriend. My car pulled up to the intersection and stopped. The kid sees me and says to his girlfriend, "Foreigner." She laughed. Rude all around. The rough way he said it, and tone of his voice was closer to "Fucking foreigner," than just "foreigner." The light changed, and I drove off.

Thinking aloud, I said, "I wonder why some people have to act like that?"

Sitting in a babyseat in the back seat, my kid piped up: "That's just something you're going to have to endure."

This coming from a three year-old, who still wets the bed. Well said. It's hard being different, but something tells me that Mini Bash is gonna be alright.
