Flicking through Kotaku I found this cool image of the Street Fighter crew and others chowing down in an Udon store run by none other than Edmund Honda. Class. I love street fighter, I love anime, and I have come to love udon, so 3 out of 3!

The image is from a soon to be published 300+ page book featuring loads of Capcom characters, by publisher Udon Entertainment. This teaser image and the name of the artists gives me the impression that they will all be eating udon, but I could be wrong... anyway, looks pretty cool to me.

Theres quite a bit of discussion going on at the moment on this guys Flickr concerning those people that just lurk in the aisles of combinis and book stores leeching manga without paying a cent for the privilege. The discussion is regarding a fitting name for these folk, with the current winner being "hobotaku".

Got something better? Post in the comments here for my personal entertainment, and then try and beat hobotaku off the top spot over at Flickr.

Pretty wicked looking anime is starting up this year called "Joe is Japanese" about a Japanese-Western half (half breed of each) growing up in Japan. From the little intro video, it looks pretty interesting, and covers some of the situations that a lot of us find ourselves in from day to day. Found the anime while reading Japanator, and heres some quotes from 'Joes' mySpace page.

The show is based on (mostly) true events from my life. It wasn't easy growing up a half-breed. No one culture will ever be yours to embrace. No matter how hard I tried, I could never really be Japanese, and as I got older I realized that I might have overcompensated and became too Japanese. You'd have to be Japanese to understand what I mean by that one...

Here's a shot from the anime of a far too common experience from [Joe's] childhood:

Joe is Japanese

I was the target of bullies until I left high school. Bully’s in Japan are a new level of evil, BTW. I'll tell you about the stove shockers and garlic/basil incident.

Classic cartoon by Kenzo Masaoka (1898 - 1988) "The father of Japanese animation."

The evil spider tries to capture the ladybird girl. However, she is given shelter to in the tulip, and the spider is blown off by a sudden storm.

Lets get things kicked off on oldSushi Blurb and go right for the throat, with a comical (even if a little non-PC) handbook which was handed out to U.S. Soldiers during their stay in China during World War II. The suitability of the 'Jap spotting' comic strip seems to have been questioned in 1944, as it was not present in the 2nd edition of the handbook.

"How to spot a Jap (1942)"
US War Dept produced comic strip included in the first edition of the "POCKET GUIDE TO CHINA", a 75-page booklet distributed to US soldiers (Army and Navy) during their stay in China during World War II.
