iblard

Released on July 4th as straight to DVD and Bluray, Ghibli's latest movie is a partnership with the artist Inoue, who also worked on the arty sequences in "Whisper of the Heart". Details about the plot of Iblard are sketchy, and the best I could find was:

A project about Inoue’s imaginary world Iblard. Fragments of forgotten memories... Nostalgic days that are sure to come again... Iblard is made of such elements.

You can check out the trailer and try to decipher more youself, over at the official website @ iblardjikan.jp

Flicking through Kotaku I found this cool image of the Street Fighter crew and others chowing down in an Udon store run by none other than Edmund Honda. Class. I love street fighter, I love anime, and I have come to love udon, so 3 out of 3!

The image is from a soon to be published 300+ page book featuring loads of Capcom characters, by publisher Udon Entertainment. This teaser image and the name of the artists gives me the impression that they will all be eating udon, but I could be wrong... anyway, looks pretty cool to me.

Having trouble seducing that new sexy secretary this allergy season? Worried that todays masks just don't have waht it takes to keep you on the top of your game (and your cheerleaders)? Well look no further because our friends at @nifty have solved our snivelling blues with some creative (and might I add super sexy) allergy masks. Please do check it out over at Nifty.

A story related to this one was also recently submitted by aniki, here are the details:

Mask fetish DVD
The latest fashion wave to hit Japan is the ... face-mask. Soon to be released "Mask Musume" DVD features a ton of your regular cosplay goodness, with the added bonus of every girl wearing a face-mask with varying designs. I do hope there's a kitty mask in there somewhere, that would just be *adorable*. Personally, I think anyone into face-masks is obviously a closet masochist, and might wanna consider going for the full on gag. Be sure to look out for this title on your favorite JAV torrent sites!

This is a 7 minute documentary of Stephen Wiltshire - The 'Human Camera' - on a trip to Tokyo. Stephen is an autistic guy from London who draws things from memory and especially likes skyscrapers. Here, he takes a 30 minute helicopter ride over Tokyo then spends a week drawing the city from memory. The final work is a 360 degree panorama that's 10 meters long. Click play to see how accurate it looks...

Throughout the 7 days Stephen sketched from morning to evening. He seemed to be so fascinated that only his 6 o'clock beep from his watch could stop him for the day. A special canvas had been set up in Seijo Studio for the occassion where the camera crew could follow Stephen's every movements.

Stephen has more work and stories at his site stephenwiltshire.co.uk.

Keisuke Kishi has a nice website of pre-"Spirited Away" art, including 360 degree views around this and other sculptures.

"Ministry of Mystic Machines" is a collection of Japanese style figurative art work which are set in the imaginary world of alternate reality that is much like the Edo period. (Japan, the early 17th century to the middle of 19th century.)

His "Piratto" sculpture kinda looks like that ice fish they just found in Antarctica, doesn't it?
