The speed of City life
The green man
After 3 years of living in Shiga Prefecture, a pretty rural area with lots of open space and easy living, the past 5 months or so living down town in the center of Kyoto has really changed my lifestyle. It could be a combination of things, but I am sure City Life itself is one reason I have changed.

Comparing to my old country life, I no longer have nice relaxing drives home after work. Instead, I ride packed subways and buses, and always seem to be in a rush to get to my house, even if I have no plans that evening...

Another great point which I have been noticing recently is my obedience with regard to traffic lights. The green man runs my walk home. I was walking along Karasuma Street, a busy road in down town Kyoto, on the wrong side of the street from where my house is. I was about to cross the road however the 'red man' was telling me not to cross the road. So I didn't, I stayed on the same side, and decided to get a sandwhich from the cafe nearby as I was pretty hungry.

Double Cheese Focaccha
Now by the time I got near the cafe, a road crossing stood between me and the glorious double cheese focaccha, along with a flashing green man, telling me I would never make it and would have to wait. So what happened, I crossed the road adjacent and went home!!! All because of a red light, which I would have had to wait for at most 2 minutes for... the funny thing is, I didnt even think twice about it!

It really goes to show how the place you live can effect your lifestyle. For obvious reasons, and for not-so-obvious ones like the one I have realised in this entry. I just seem to get rushed along with the fast paced city life. Now I am at home, wishing I'd had that sandwich, and having accomplished nothing since getting home... very strange

From now on - fuck the lights, I'm getting a sandwich!
