A turn towards patriotism
Sorry guys, I know this is not very sexy (unless you get off by smearing mayonaise all over old politician's nipples) but I think this is at least half as relevant to our lives here in Japan as the overall Japanese view of sex... well 1/4th as relevant anyway.

Maybe it is simply due to little man syndrome, or perhaps he has taken notice at how much cash the Bushes have made off their campaign of war, but it looks as though our hero Prime Minister Abe is at it again; this time looking towards changes in the constitution that will essentially re-militarize Japan. Currently, the SDF (Self Defence Force) is existing in a kind of don't ask, don't tell state of illegality, but the new clause that Abe on high is pushing will "officially grant Japan the right to use arms," according to University of Tokyo Professor Tetsuya Takahashi.

Not such a big deal perhaps, when taken on its own, but when you consider the other things Abe has been doing to infuse his (perhaps estrogen saturated society) with a bit of testosterone, it makes one think of, oh I don't know... Hitler, Moussilini, GW, basically any world power who has ever been led by one or two insane individuals into a world wide frenzy of war and hatred.

Basically this is how it all started about 70 years ago or so before Japan went on its first killing spree in Asia. Not sure what we can do about it, other than pay atttention, but here is a short list of Abe's offenses.

1) Abe denies that the Japanese military enslaved women from other Asian countries and forced them to perform sexual acts in Military run brothels, in an attempt to rewrite history such that the public will forget about the terrible things that Japan (or any country for that matter) has done when allowed a military.

2) "Abe took a step toward changing the public mind-set by revising the Fundamental Law of Education in December to instill a specifically defined sense of patriotism in the classroom.

The 1947 education law originally stated that the goal of education was to build a peaceful and democratic nation based on the Constitution. But the revision stipulates a new goal is to nurture patriotism among the people." (Japan Times)

Patriotism. Brainwashing. Militarism. Sometimes I have trouble picking out exactly what is different about these words.

3) The most recent attempted change in the constitution which would allow Abe to start pouring more and more tax money into the development of a bigger, stronger military.

I don't know about you guys, but as far as I'm concerned there are dark clouds on the horizon. Something tells me Abe needs to spend more time in the strip club and less time in the office. He's fucking up.

Hes not being very cunning about it either. First make everyone forget all of the shit things that happened during the war, that way an official fighting force will cause no objections...

Oh please. Why the fuck shouldnt they arm themselves? I think Japan has enough sense now not to go on a big power trip again. Though, it does like to copy Americans in other sense, so maybe not.

Seriously, why shouldnt they arm up? Everyone else is! Is Japan the otnly country that did horrible things during wars? WTF are you on? Why should Japan be punished for so long...America has done its turn of wanking of foreign lands, and they continue unchallenged. Hell, even Blighty did a number of nastyt hings back them. But we have a fighting force now.

I say let them. Its not as if America is gonna come running to help Japan when Korea attacks.

Britain did NOTHING WRONG, EVER! Our textbooks prove it But that is a good point though... they are currently pretty defenseless against Korea heh.

Dude, Actually Aniki, if you read up on your history, America is legally RESONSIBLE to help Japan in a case such as an attack by Korea, and about your other point, that makes no sense to me either. I'd rather see the American army held to the same standards as Japan rather than have Japan saying "waaaa, look at those americans. They get to have an army, why can't we?" I really wish the leaders of the worlds leading powers were capable of acting like more than bed-wetting toddlers. (I'm copying all this and starting a new thread in the forums so we can discuss at greater length.)
